Landing Pages for Manufacturers: How to Turn an Engineer’s Visit Into an RFQ

Most manufacturing companies that decide to get serious about winning work online spend real money on it: Google Ads for their process, a Europages listing, a LinkedIn campaign, a QR code on the trade fair stand.

And many of them see clicks, but no RFQs.

If your website gets traffic from those campaigns and engineers just pass through without sending a drawing, you are most likely missing one element that should sit between the campaign and your website: a landing page.

What Is a Landing Page for a Manufacturer?

As the name says, a landing page is the page a visitor “lands” on after clicking your ad, your directory listing, a link in an email or the QR code on your stand.

It is not the homepage and it is not the general “Services” page. It is a standalone page with one process, one type of buyer and one very specific job: to get the engineer to send a drawing for a quote.

For a job shop, the goal of a landing page is almost always the RFQ. Sometimes it is a step before that: downloading a design guide, booking a call with an engineer, or requesting a capability sheet. But the logic is the same: one page, one audience, one action.

Why Landing Pages Matter for Manufacturing Companies

Landing pages are one of the biggest factors deciding whether a campaign brings RFQs or just spends the budget.

If you send all the traffic from your Google Ads campaign for “laser cutting service” to your homepage, you have a problem.

Why? Because a manufacturer’s homepage has to do everything at once: welcome the existing customer, present six processes, show the machine park, link to the careers page and the news. There are so many things to click that the one thing you wanted the visitor to do, upload a drawing, gets lost.

An engineer who searched for “laser cutting 20 mm stainless steel” and lands on a homepage about “comprehensive metal solutions since 1994” concludes within seconds that this is not the place. Back to Google, next result.

There goes your click, and your campaign with it.

There is a second, less obvious cost. Google Ads scores every ad partly on landing page experience: how relevant and useful the page is for the search. A generic homepage lowers that score, which raises your cost per click and lowers your position. A dedicated landing page that matches the search does the opposite. Landing Page vs. Service Page

Manufacturers often ask whether they need a landing page when they already have a service page for the process. Usually you need both, and they should share most of their content. The difference is in the job each one does:

The rest of this article is about the anatomy of the landing page, but everything below improves a service page too.

How to Build a Landing Page That Converts Engineers and Buyers

The first thing to accept is that there is no one-size-fits-all template for a perfect landing page. Every process, every buyer and every campaign is different.

But years of A/B tests, ours and everyone else’s, show that the landing pages that produce RFQs share the same elements. Here they are, in the order an engineer sees them.

1. A Headline That Repeats the Search and States the Capability

The first thing a visitor should see is a prominent headline that tells them, in one line, that they are in the right place.

For a manufacturer, the right place is defined by capability, not by adjectives. Compare:

  • “Your Reliable Partner for Innovative Metal Solutions”
  • “Laser Cutting of Steel, Stainless and Aluminium up to 25 mm. Quote Within 24 Hours.”

The second headline answers the two questions the engineer had before they clicked: can you do it, and how fast will you respond. Ten to twenty words is enough.

The subheadline adds the second layer: batch sizes, region, certification. “From prototypes to series of 10,000. ISO 9001. Delivery across DACH.”

The headline also has to match the ad or listing the visitor clicked. If the ad said “tube laser cutting”, the headline says “tube laser cutting”, not “sheet metal processing”. This message match is what tells the engineer the page delivers on the promise, and it is what Google rewards with a better landing page score.

2. The RFQ Form as the Call to Action

Every element of a landing page plays a role, but the call to action is the one that matters most. On a manufacturer’s landing page, the call to action is not a button that leads to a contact page. It is the RFQ form itself, with a drawing upload, visible without scrolling.

Here is how to build it.

Placement

Put the form above the fold, next to the headline, on desktop and mobile. Leave empty space around it so nothing competes with it. Then repeat it further down the page, after the specifications and after the proof, so nobody has to scroll back up.

Fields

Ask only for what you need to quote: name, company, email, the file (DXF, DWG, STEP, PDF), quantity and a free-text field for material and notes. Phone can be optional. Every extra mandatory field costs you RFQs, and you can ask for the rest in your reply.

Button copy

Keep it short, active and specific to what happens next: “Send drawing for a quote” or “Get my quote within 24 hours” beats “Submit” and “Contact us”. Say what the visitor gets, not what they have to do.

A secondary path

Not every engineer has a finished drawing when they land. Give them a smaller step that keeps them in the funnel: download the design guide for the process, request the capability sheet as a PDF, or book a fifteen-minute call with an engineer. And show a phone number prominently; a surprising share of purchasing managers still prefer to call.

3. Specifications Instead of Adjectives

On a consumer landing page, this section would be called “benefits”. For an engineer or a buyer, the benefits are the specifications. They are answering one question: can this shop make my part, to my tolerance, in my quantity, by my deadline?

So the middle of the page belongs to facts, in a format that can be scanned in thirty seconds:

  • Machines: 6 kW fibre laser, 3000 × 1500 mm bed; 5-axis machining centre, 1000 × 800 × 600 mm
  • Materials and thicknesses: a table by material (S235/S355 up to 25 mm, stainless up to 15 mm, aluminium up to 12 mm)
  • Tolerances and finishes: what you achieve, by process, with the standard you work to (ISO 2768, ISO 9013)
  • Batch sizes and lead times: prototypes in 5 days, series in 3 weeks, or whatever is true for you
  • Certifications: ISO 9001, EN 1090, ISO 3834, IATF 16949, with the certificates linked
  • Files and documentation: accepted formats, measurement reports, 3.1 material certificates

Choose the three to five facts that matter most for this campaign and put them right under the headline. The full table goes below, where it supports the decision without competing with the form.

A number does more than an adjective every time. “Up to 25 mm” tells the engineer whether to bother; “high-quality laser cutting” tells them nothing.

4. Real Visuals, Clean Layout

The general rule of landing pages is that everything that distracts from the form is a problem. Sliders, stock photos, embedded social feeds and decorative graphics all go.

What stays is what an engineer actually wants to see: a photo of the machine, a few photos of real parts made with it, ideally next to the drawing they came from, and, if you have it, a 20-second video of the process. Nobody has ever sent a drawing because of a stock photo of a man in a hard hat pointing at a laptop.

Keep the layout simple: plenty of white space, a large readable font, one column on mobile. Compress the photos so the page loads fast on a phone in a factory with bad reception.

For pages that receive paid traffic, drop the full navigation. Keep the logo, the phone number and, at most, a link back to the main site. Every other link is an exit.

5. Proof That You Deliver

Self-praise has never convinced a purchasing manager. Let others and your track record do the talking.

Proof on a manufacturing landing page looks like this:

  • Logos of customers you are allowed to name, or at least the industries you serve (agricultural machinery, rail, energy, machine building)
  • Certification badges linked to the actual certificates
  • Two or three reference projects with numbers: part, material, batch size, tolerance, lead time
  • A short testimonial from an engineer or buyer, with full name, role and company
  • Facts about the shop: years in business, parts per month, on-time delivery rate

Pick testimonials from people who have the same job as the visitor. A quote from a design engineer at a machine builder convinces other design engineers; a quote from your neighbour’s plumbing business does not.

6. How It Works: What Happens After the Upload

Uncertainty kills RFQs. An engineer who does not know what happens after they upload a drawing often does not upload it.

So spell it out in three steps: you send the drawing, we quote within 24 hours (or 48, or whatever you can keep), and after your approval we produce and deliver. Add who they will hear from and how: a named engineer, by email, with a technical check of the drawing included.

Then keep the promise. A landing page that says “quote within 24 hours” and a quoting inbox that answers in five days is worse than no landing page.

7. One Page per Process, Buyer and Region

The most common mistake we see is one landing page for everything the shop does. It cannot match any search precisely, so it converts none of them well.

Build one landing page per combination you actively sell: laser cutting stainless steel, tube laser cutting, CNC turning for small batches, EN 1090 steel structures, powder coating of large parts. If you run campaigns in several markets, one per region and language as well, with the German page using German terms such as “Laserschneiden” (laser cutting) and “Lohnfertigung” (contract manufacturing).

After the Page Is Live: Measure and Test

A landing page is not finished when it is published. Three things turn it from a page into a lead machine.

First, track the RFQ as a conversion. Send the form to a thank-you page and fire the Google Ads and analytics conversion there, so you know which keywords and campaigns produce drawings, not just clicks.

Second, look at the RFQs, not only the count. Ten drawings from hobbyists are worth less than one from an OEM buyer. If the wrong people are converting, the fix is usually in the headline and the key facts, not in the form.

Third, test one thing at a time: the headline, the number of form fields, the position of the proof. Industrial traffic is small, so give each test a few weeks and a few dozen RFQs before you decide.

Wrapping It Up

Building landing pages and optimising them is the most direct way for a manufacturer to turn campaign traffic into RFQs.

The elements above are a starting point that tells you what to focus on and what to leave out: a headline that states the capability, the RFQ form above the fold, specifications instead of adjectives, real photos, proof, a clear process, and one page per process and buyer.
